What is impressionism
Impressionism is a style or movement in painting originating in France in the 1860s, characterized by a concern with depicting the visual impression of the moment, especially in terms of the shifting effect of light and colour. Impressionism was developed by Claude Monet and other Paris-based artists from the early 1860s. Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas are famous impressionists.

Here you can see the famous painting: Woman in a Tub", by Edgar Degas. You can see that this is a painting in impressionism, because it was made quite fast. Degas had to paint the woman while she was in the tub, the light could change really fast. Also she was not for a long time in the tub. We are very proud that this beautiful painting is in our museum.
